From Idea to AI Prototype in 4 Weeks
You have an AI idea for your business. How do you turn it into a working prototype in just 4 weeks? This guide shows you the way, week by week.
Week 0: Preparation (Before Start)
Before the 4 weeks begin, clarify three things: Define your problem in one sentence. Not "We want to use AI" but for example "We want to know if AI can automatically create the daily shopping list for our restaurant." Identify your data. What historical data do you have that is relevant for the prototype? Choose your evaluation standard. How will you recognize if the prototype is successful?
Week 1: Idea Workshop and Design
Days 1-2 are the workshop. You, your team, and the AI partner meet for an intensive workshop. Workshop goals are refining the idea, defining the Minimum Viable Prototype (MVP), establishing success criteria, and creating the project plan.
Days 3-5 are for design. The AI partner creates the technical design and data plan. You provide the required data.
Week 2: Building the Core
The AI partner builds the prototype's core functionality. Focus is on the "happy path" the standard case occurring in 80% of situations. Edge cases and boundary conditions are deliberately excluded.
At the end of Week 2, there is a first demo where you see and test the prototype for the first time.
Week 3: Feedback and Iteration
Week 3 is the most important week. You test the prototype with real data and real scenarios. The AI partner collects your feedback and makes adjustments. Typically, there are 2 to 3 feedback rounds during this week.
Be sure to provide not only error reports but also positive feedback: What already works well? What surprised you?
Week 4: Evaluation and Roadmap
In the final week, results are evaluated. Did the prototype meet the success criteria? What surprises were there? What would still be needed for a production solution?
At week's end, you receive an honest feasibility assessment, a documented prototype with all results, and a roadmap for production development with costs and timeline.
What Happens After?
You have three options. Further development if results convince and the prototype is developed into a production solution. Adjustment if the idea is promising but needs changes, with a second prototype phase with adjusted focus. Or the result "Not feasible" then you have a well-founded answer for CHF 8,000 to 15,000 instead of a disappointing experience for CHF 50,000 or more.
Conclusion
4 weeks is enough to validate an AI idea. The prototype gives you the decision foundation you need, without having to take a big risk. It is the smartest first step into your AI future.
