Webzenz set up the Infomaniak server environment for BrickMatch.ch and took the Next.js platform live with Docker, staging, GitHub Actions and Swiss hosting.
Overview
BrickMatch.ch is a Swiss community platform for adult LEGO fans. Members create profiles, show their collections in galleries, find matching contacts, chat with each other, join events and can subscribe to premium plans.
Webzenz was commissioned to run the existing web application on Swiss infrastructure at Infomaniak in a clean, secure and maintainable way. The focus was the hosting environment and the deployment of a Next.js application with a PostgreSQL database, image storage and email delivery, including a clear path from staging to production.
Starting point
The platform was functionally complete but needed a production-ready environment in Switzerland. Updates had to roll out without manual work on the server, user images must not be publicly exposed and the database had to be backed up before every release.
Features and delivery
Server environment at Infomaniak
Linux server environment in the Infomaniak Public Cloud with Caddy as reverse proxy and automatic TLS certificates from Let's Encrypt.
Containerised deployment
Docker and Docker Compose with multi-stage builds based on Node.js 22 and Debian Bookworm Slim for small, reproducible images.
Separate staging and production
A protected staging environment for testing and sign-off, kept apart from the public production environment.
Automated deployment
GitHub Actions transfer the code over SSH and rsync, build the Docker images on the server and restart the services.
PostgreSQL with a backup before every release
PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM. An automatic database backup is created before every production deployment.
Private object storage for images
Infomaniak Object Storage through the S3-compatible API. Uploads go through the server and images are delivered from a private bucket via signed, time-limited links.
Transactional email
System emails sent over SMTP and Nodemailer with Infomaniak Mail.
Post-deployment health checks
Automatic health checks and a check of the delivered HTML and CSS after every release.
Webzenz scope of work
- Setup and configuration of the Infomaniak server area
- Runtime preparation and Docker setup
- Staging and production workflows with GitHub Actions
- Alignment of database, persistent storage, SMTP and configuration
- Backup strategy and post-deployment checks
Development of the platform and its business logic was not part of this engagement. Webzenz took over the existing application and made it ready for operation.
Technologies used
- Servers, cloud and hosting
- Deployment and workflow
- Database and data layer
- Frontend
- Authentication and security
- Payments and billing
- Integrations
Result
BrickMatch.ch now runs on a structured hosting and deployment environment in Switzerland. New versions are checked on staging first and then moved to production in a controlled way, with a database backup and automatic checks.
The project shows the experience of Webzenz with Swiss cloud hosting, Infomaniak environments and the deployment of modern Next.js applications.
